Ben Franklin spent most of his life working as a printer, which he started doing at his brother (James Franklin)'s shop in Boston. When he got to the age of 16, he began not only printing, but writing parts of his brother's newspaper under the pseudonym "Silence Dogood." Using this name, Franklin satirized daily life and politics in Boston.
At the young age of 17, Franklin went to Philadelphia to open his own print shop. Thanks to this move, Franklin made one of his most famous contributions to American literature, Poor Richards Alminack.(sic)
Franklin continued publishing this from 1732-1757, and it contained information, observations, and advice.
At the age of 42, Franklin retired himself from the printing business to devote himself to science, which he proved himself quite good at. Franklin invented several things, including:

  •      The lightning rod.picture
  •      Bifocals. Picture
  •      A new type of stove.
Later in his life Franklin would become quite the successful diplomat, helping to enlist French help in the Revolutionary War, then helping negotiate a peace treaty between America and Britain.
